School Cleaning: Westlands First School & Nursery

Along with many other education facilities, schools experience many changes over time, with changes in teams and pupils.

But one thing remains unchanged – that teachers, in partnership with parents, want to foster a love of lifelong learning.

At Westlands First School, this is exactly what Head Teacher Rachel Roberts wishes to see across this lovely school facility, which is based in the heart of a Droitwich community.

Westlands provides a teacher-led nursery and primary education for pupils from reception to year four.

The Client’s Brief

As a two-form entry school with nursery provision, it is a busy educational setting. They have had three cleaners provided by a company for several years,

However post-pandemic, although the cleaners based at Westlands were providing an excellent daily school cleaning service, there were communication issues with the previous cleaning company and a lack of cover cleaning when absence occurred.

The head teacher needed consistency and clear communication in the provision of cleaning services, to ensure the well-being of children and staff.

How we helped

A quote and subsequent schedule of cleaning were submitted and approved by the headteacher.

As is a legal and fair process, the two existing cleaning operatives underwent the TUPE process to become our employees.

After a thorough interview and vetting process, including a DBS check, a local operative was employed and inducted to the site to complete the team of three operatives.

They all work 2 hours daily Monday to Friday during term time and then work additional hours in the summer holiday to provide deep cleaning to certain areas once the classrooms are cleared at the end of each academic year.

The building, as is usual with education facilities, consists of numerous classrooms and washrooms, along with offices, a library, smaller support rooms, a dining room/assembly hall and a kitchen. All these areas are connected via walkways, along with a foyer and reception area at the front entrance of the building.

All these areas, apart from two smaller offices, are cleaned daily throughout the week, closely following the bespoke cleaning schedule.

Quality meetings with the Head Teacher enable feedback on any areas for improvement or additional services required, (for example after such things as spills on carpeted areas or upholstery).

The Client’s Experience

Cleaning Technique has been able to provide Westlands School daily cleaning to ensure that the children coming in each morning are in safe and clean spaces, also enabling teachers support staff and other team members to be able to concentrate on nurturing that love of learning in their pupils. We are pleased that during these years of partnership, we have been able to provide local operatives with continued employment.

Here’s what they have to say:

We have been using Cleaning Technique for just over a year and have been very pleased with the quality of the cleaning  and the support our cleaners have had from Head office
