Communal Area Cleaning

Communal area cleaning can be a tricky contract to fulfil. Areas can be in constant use, making scheduling deep cleaning difficult, or only requiring occasional cleaning, meaning a client struggles to find a cleaning company who can deliver the required cleaning frequency. The latter was the position Citizens’ Advice found themselves in. They manage a number of rental properties across Worcester. The upkeep of the communal areas within this accommodation is the responsibility of Citizens’ Advice. The communal areas consist of foyer areas, walkways, corridors staircases, stairwells and require monthly cleaning, rather than daily cleaning.

What do Citizens Advice Bureau do?

Citizens Advice (CAB) are a charitable organisation giving independent advice to assist people with legal, debt, housing and other problems they face. Worcestershire Citizens’ Advice office is based in the centre of Worcester City. In a bid to tackle homelessness and help people in this situation they manage rental accommodation.

What problems did Citizens’ Advice have?

1.      No capacity in-house

The cleaning of these areas is monthly and the management at CAB did not have the capacity to do this much cleaning in-house.

2.      Limited storage on site

These buildings are spread across the city centre, where parking is limited. They also have limited storage capacity, meaning equipment would have to be transferred from site to site.

3.      Lack of interest from other cleaning companies

The team at CAB were also struggling to recruit a cleaning company to undertake this work. The contract was for a monthly clean and was spread over seven sites across the city. Practically, this was quite a tricky contract to fulfil and would be better suited to an operative who was already working within the city and could add it to an existing case-load.

How we helped

1.      Personal consultation

Having heard of Cleaning Technique, the manager met with Sean, they toured the multiple sites, to enable Sean to accurately prepare a detailed specific quote and schedule of areas to be cleaned. The subsequent quote was submitted and accepted.

2.      Supplying a suitable team member

These buildings all differ in size and structure, a number are multi-storey. We introduced one of our operatives to each site. He has worked for us for over 15 years, he’s experienced, with good knowledge of health and safety, has an exemplary work ethic and lives close to the city centre.  This means our operative was happy to visit each site with a lightweight vacuum and cleaning supplies.

Each month our operative spends a number of hours cleaning the properties. As he is working alone, he has a lone worker device with him. We take staff safety very seriously and use the devices to ensure we keep our staff safe.

Our operative hard at work cleaning the communal areas at one of our client’s rental properties.

The Client’s experience

Our client has full confidence that all the cleaning requirements for their managed buildings are carefully managed by our team. Enabling them to concentrate on helping vulnerable people, alongside managing the demands of property lettings and liaising with landlords.

The residents’ shared spaces are clean and well-presented.

Our client gave this lovely feedback:

‘Highly recommended competitive prices, outstanding cleaning and great customer service.’
